Engen Petroleum Tanzania Ltd was founded in 1996 when Engen Petroleum Limited purchased the Kurasini Terminal, Isaka Depot and Kigoma Depot from M/S BULK Oil Ltd. 

Commencing business in 1996 as a transit depot, EPTL attained a license to operate locally the following year. Owing to its coastal location, Tanzania is an important source of product supply for landlocked countries such as Burundi, Uganda, Zambia and the DRC.

Amsons Group was started in early 2006 as an importer of bulk oil and petroleum products under the Camel Oil Tanzania retail brand. Having started off its operations distributing and retailing fuel, it has now branched out and grown, not only its market share of retail outlets and fuel distribution, but diversified and reorganised into the following business segments.
